Dennis Schmuland MD, FAAFP – Corporate and Clinical Advisor
Dr Schmuland brings 28 years’ experience of executive leadership in starting, growing, acquiring, integrating, downsizing, selling, and investing in health related companies at multiple stages.
After practicing family medicine in Redmond, WA for 13 years, he founded Pointshare, a secure, e-health connectivity and transaction service for regional healthcare communities across 4 states. After selling Pointshare to Siemens AG in 2001, he was recruited to Microsoft where he served as an executive and thought leader for the next 18 years.
In 2005 he founded Microsoft’s US health insurance vertical and served as the Worldwide Managing Director for the Health Plan Industry until 2012. In 2009, he received the distinguished Microsoft Circle of Excellence Platinum Club award for exceptional business leadership, thought leadership and strategic innovation.
Most recently, he served as Microsoft’s Chief Strategy Officer for the US Health & Life Sciences subsidiary which involved thought leadership, strategic innovation, collaborative C-suite relationships, and driving game-changing digital transformation impact and evidence with customers and partners across payer, provider, and life sciences verticals.
He holds a doctorate in medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine, holds membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP).
He obtained undergraduate degrees in both Psychology and Chemistry from Seattle Pacific University, where he graduated summa cum laude and received the Distinguished President’s Citation award.
He currently serves on the Advisory Boards of Cordex Systems Inc., the University of Washington School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine Primary Care Innovation Lab, the University of Washington Master in Health and Health Information Management, Evergreen Health Board Strategic Planning and Construction Committee, Evergreen Health Board Quality & Safety Committee, and two early stage companies, Boise-based SeekingSImple and Toronto-based Aztute Precision Health.
